Definitive Guide In Introducing New Food To Fussy Toddlers

January 28th, 2008 | 1,105 views

Feeding a toddler sometimes isn’t always the easiest task for parents. Kids can be very choosy at times and usually respond negatively when new foods are introduced to them. If you are a parent, below’s a nifty guide that will help you feed them and introduce new foods to them.

Set An Example

The first thing I did was that became the role model to my kids. I believe that becoming a good example and letting them see that I ate healthy foods and showed them that I enjoyed them somehow encouraged them to try it. Never let them hear you making denigrating comments about any food that you dislike, else it’ll give them the impression and they’ll find it hard to appreciate the food you described.

Do Not Bribe

Though this is a common practice culturally speaking, I discourage parents to bribe their kids just to eat a certain food (or take certain medicine). This usually backfires in the future. Your kids may end up having a strong dislike to the food you introduced and will eventually require “rewards” just to eat a certain food or do a certain task.

Make Small Meals At Regular Intervals

It is preferable to have small meals for toddlers than letting them eat three times a day. The reason for this is that kids tend to have smaller stomachs. You can insert snack time between small meals. Ensure that this is done at regular intervals so it would become a habit. Also, do not give them liquid (water, juice, milk) prior their meal unless they are really thirsty.

Let Them Enjoy Their Meal

You can make their eating enjoyable by during the food preparation. While you are preparing the food to cook, you can let them participate in the kitchen activities like tearing leafy vegetables, or let the cooking get timed by them just for fun. You still need to watch them though as they can be unpredictable sometimes. When they are talking the meal, you can perhaps add safe condiments to enhance the flavor of the food. Ketchup is usually one of the most popular for kids.

Hear Their Complaints

If your kids complain of something before or during eating, give them appropriate attention. They could be facing problems such as sore throat, blocked nose or an upset tummy while eating. Ask them what they feel if you observe that something is wrong.

No Hurries For Them

It is normal for kids to take a good amount of time while eating. Though there are kids who eat fast, fussy eaters are slow and often dawdle over their plate. Let them finish and ask them if they have eaten enough. When kids react negatively to the new food you introduced, be persistent in offering them the food. Sometimes, they need to see them in a number of times for them to be familiar with it. If they really won’t take them, then find a substitute food.

Loving the Tilapia

January 27th, 2008 | 276 views

Tilapia Fish (Wikipedia image)Many people like the tilapia fish. It is well-known white meat fish that can be found almost anywhere in the world. Tilapia is considered one of the most profitable fishes to culture, but sadly speaking for me, it’s one of the fishes I try to avoid to eat.

Honestly, I really don’t have major problems eating this fish, regardless of how it is cooked. The only thing I dislike with tilapia is that it makes my meal too time-consuming. Tilapias are known to be “bony” fishes. This, for me, makes eating tedious. I am slow at picking the fish meat and how I easily get bored. I am pretty sure there are also people in the world who share similar sentiments with mine.

Tongue-wise, tilapia’s meat is rather yummy if served with condiments. Ketchup and soy sauce greatly improve tilapias taste (same with other fishes). But if there are other fishes available around (like Tuna), I’d leave tilapias untouched and pick other types instead. Well, this is my fussy eating story. :P

Tilapia Trivia:

Tilapias are sometimes called “St. Peter’s fish”. According to a tale, the term “tilapia” is taken from the Christian Bible about the apostle Peter catching a fish that carried a shekel coin in its mouth. It was said that the dark spots on the sides of tilapias are pattern of the fingermarks of the saint.

Heinz Ketchup: Fussy Eater’s Delight

January 10th, 2008 | 291 views

When you talk with me about Heinz brand, the first thing that enters my mind would be their ketchup. And yes, it deserves some praise because it’s a “fussy eater’s delight.”

Heinz KetchupWell, for quite some time I could say that I and my kids would never be able to finish our meals if there’s a fish being served without ketchup. Well, it just tastes too funny – for us. Heinz ketchup is our best solution to make fish recipes just perfect and tasty as it should be.

Now, talking about pizzas, the toppings are really critical to some of my choosy friends. Like cheese and onion rings, Ketchup selection is a major concern: it has to be “Heinz” – so they say. I am a pizza lover too but luckily I am not too picky when it comes to it. Oh well, if you put a Heinz brand on the table, I would love to grab it.

World Reputation of Heinz
Heinz is almost synonymous with ketchup throughout the world. Restaurants from Melbourne to Miami, Mumbai to Montreal use Heinz ketchup atop their tables for their customers.

Heinz does not only lead in ketchup, but their condiments and sauces are also the top choices. Their lineup of meal enhancers offers an expansive range of tomato sauces for various restaurants and homes.

If you have more to share about Heinz ketchup, feel free to drop your comment. Thank you!

Food Fussy: Solutions for the Fussy Eaters

September 18th, 2007 | 352 views

Good day, everyone. Welcome to Food Fussy blog!

Before I came up with a name for this website, it took me several thoughts before I conceptualized “Food Fussy” which sounds perfect for me. Some people at first impressions say the website name sounds “porno” lol but the reality is quite far from what they are thinking.

Food Fussy (this website), as its name implies, surrounds on talks and discussions in dealing with fussy eaters. Why did I make this? Well, for your information, I am a mother of two (a girl and a boy) and one of them, my daughter, is a fussy eater. Whenever she is hungry, I drag her to our kitchen and prepare a food for her. Sounds easy — but not! She meticulously observes me while I cook and when her eyes hits something unappealing, she yells her famous line: “What’s that? I don’t like that!” — tolerable but sometimes it tests your patience. So, I decided to run a website, hoping I would meet people or parents who have same experiences with me.

Feel free to join the discussion and let’s put in solutions for the fussy eaters. Anyone is welcome — parent or not, girl or boy — I’m pretty sure there are fussy eaters around you!
