Definitive Guide In Introducing New Food To Fussy Toddlers
January 28th, 2008 | 1,105 viewsFeeding a toddler sometimes isn’t always the easiest task for parents. Kids can be very choosy at times and usually respond negatively when new foods are introduced to them. If you are a parent, below’s a nifty guide that will help you feed them and introduce new foods to them.
Set An Example
The first thing I did was that became the role model to my kids. I believe that becoming a good example and letting them see that I ate healthy foods and showed them that I enjoyed them somehow encouraged them to try it. Never let them hear you making denigrating comments about any food that you dislike, else it’ll give them the impression and they’ll find it hard to appreciate the food you described.
Do Not Bribe
Though this is a common practice culturally speaking, I discourage parents to bribe their kids just to eat a certain food (or take certain medicine). This usually backfires in the future. Your kids may end up having a strong dislike to the food you introduced and will eventually require “rewards” just to eat a certain food or do a certain task.
Make Small Meals At Regular Intervals
It is preferable to have small meals for toddlers than letting them eat three times a day. The reason for this is that kids tend to have smaller stomachs. You can insert snack time between small meals. Ensure that this is done at regular intervals so it would become a habit. Also, do not give them liquid (water, juice, milk) prior their meal unless they are really thirsty.
Let Them Enjoy Their Meal
You can make their eating enjoyable by during the food preparation. While you are preparing the food to cook, you can let them participate in the kitchen activities like tearing leafy vegetables, or let the cooking get timed by them just for fun. You still need to watch them though as they can be unpredictable sometimes. When they are talking the meal, you can perhaps add safe condiments to enhance the flavor of the food. Ketchup is usually one of the most popular for kids.
Hear Their Complaints
If your kids complain of something before or during eating, give them appropriate attention. They could be facing problems such as sore throat, blocked nose or an upset tummy while eating. Ask them what they feel if you observe that something is wrong.
No Hurries For Them
It is normal for kids to take a good amount of time while eating. Though there are kids who eat fast, fussy eaters are slow and often dawdle over their plate. Let them finish and ask them if they have eaten enough. When kids react negatively to the new food you introduced, be persistent in offering them the food. Sometimes, they need to see them in a number of times for them to be familiar with it. If they really won’t take them, then find a substitute food.

Many people like the tilapia fish. It is well-known white meat fish that can be found almost anywhere in the world. Tilapia is considered one of the most profitable fishes to culture, but sadly speaking for me, it’s one of the fishes I try to avoid to eat.
Well, for quite some time I could say that I and my kids would never be able to finish our meals if there’s a fish being served without ketchup. Well, it just tastes too funny – for us. Heinz ketchup is our best solution to make fish recipes just perfect and tasty as it should be.
